Need help w/HKS EVC

So i just got the ebc installed 2 weeks ago and have been messing w/ boost settings, which go by %'s when cranking the boost. I've read that the Evo boost 20psi stock and also heard it boost 14psi. So right now i've added 58% on the ebc to get it close to 22psi which I'm tuned for. The thing i want to know is if any of the users here are using this ebc and what % you guys have it set on? Also what is the actual boost on a stock evo, is it 14 or 20psi?

stock evo 8 boost level is around 18.5 psi

before when i'm with Apexi intake, JIC Exhaust manifold, 02 housing, 3" DP, 3" HFC, 3" exhaust, 272/272 cam it takes 68% for 22psi

Now i'm with Stock intake box, stock exhaust manifold, stock 02 housing, stock Cat, Stock Exhaust, 272/272 cam, it takes 72% for 20psi

my stock setup with less boost spike.

Good luck bro. That is the number one reason why I put mine for sale. Me and a friend (rraulston) we both sold our units due to the unfriendly user menu.

Installation of the unit was easy as hell, navegating and adjusting the unit was a pita. There is a couple of post with other people having the same issues.

Haha, I've had mine running on the car 2 years and it's rock solid. I have scans of the owner's manual if you need them. Don't worry Jspec, you have one of the best boost controllers for applications up to 36psi out there Around this time of year I have my volume set for 66% and I THINK my wastegate gain for spool is around 90%.

New question. How do you adjust the wastegate gain? I have the quick manual in my car for reference but never got around to adjusting the wastegate. Another thing, do you WOT on 3rd gear or 4th? I was messing around on the way home and wot on 3rd, hit 21psi, but my car started slipping a little because of the wet snow. In the manual it says go either 3rd or 4th. Probably gonna try WOT on 4th tomorrow. Thanks

my hks evo 5 just busted. first the boost started surging. then the display would read error all the time. then it would only boost 11psi which is off the wg spring. there is just stop controling boost all together.

so what do you guys think is busted? the steping motor of the control unit

Are you running the little inline filters that come in the install kit provided with the boost controller? If so, then maybe one is clogged up. It sounds like the stepping motor may be malfunctioning.

He has the EVC 5 or older model. NOT the EVC 6 that you had. He is setting it up in %, not PSI, like the new one. You shouldnt have given up so soon on that boost controller. It is very easy to use and can 100% eliminate taper, if you know how to set it up properly.

65 to 70% sounds about right if using the stock actuator and basic supporings mods to achieve 20 to 22 psi.

Hey Mitsu.. I found out that my boost taper was caused by excessive turbine backpressure, and the stock airbox. That much I couldnt fix no matter what so I found a way around it. The NEW EVC 6 is IMO the best boost controller you can get. But if you dont know how it works, then you wont think its any better than the preivous EVC. The HKS manual wont tell you jack however. I have setup 4 of these units now and sold (1) setup manual to a guy in CA. I helped him over the phone and got his car to hold 22 psi solid. Before the boost contoller it would taper from 22 down to 18 psi, if I remember right.

I had a thread with videos showing the boost holding power of the EVC, but it got deleted because I wasnt a vendor.

Wha??? As long as you're not trying to sell it then post the vid. And yeah with the throttle position sensitive boost capabilities of the new evc coupled with it's stepping motor's rock solid performance "I liiiiike!"

I was trying to sell a supplemental user manual that I spent alot of time developing and writing and/or selling installation and setup of the unit to local guys in NC. I conducted all business through PM's, and never posted a price or told what boost controller it even was. I was only giving that info in the PM's. I was trying to play by the rules, but may have stepped on someones feet.

Anyhow, back on topic.
