Can the evo withstand 19psi to redline, what are you boosting?

hey guys on completely stock components how much boost can we run on the evo? I jsut got my SBC-iD installed and i'm itching to try holding 19psi to redline. I know when and where the stock evo knocks and on what octane. I will but using only 94+ octane when I do so and as i've tested with that gas I found no knock. If the stock evo ran 19psi to 3500 wouldn't it log similar knock counts as running it at 6500rpms. Just curious, I know the A/F is already rich so this is one way of leaning it out abit. I'm jsut curious on timing, I'm not seeing to big of a problem but I will be datalogging everything.

Anyone have and expirences? What is everyone else boosting with or without parts.

My 1999 GSX could hold 19 to redline. I don't know why the Lancer couldn't. Try it at your own risk! And be sure and let us know what if feels like

I have run my car (E5GSR) at 23 PSI for two years. The turbo eventually expired but the engine is rock solid healthy with stock internals. I have never even had the valve cover off.

What are you using to get your data log?

19psi to redline is fine. I run 20psi to redline on 93 octane gas.

Depends on where you're from though. When I drove to FL this past weekend, gas from some parts of VA and NC were real ****ty. It's the same 93 octane gas, but the car ran really bad. I thought it was just the one time, but the car did it on a tank from there on the way to FL, and also on the tank home from FL, around the same states.

If you know for your that the gas in your area is half way decent, 19 to 20psi to redline should be OK.

Incognito, what mods are on your car running 19psi and have you logged any data from it?

20 to redline here, seems fine, definitely more fun. On 93 octane gas, and also using an S-AFC to pull a good amount of fuel out of the top end.

My mods list is in my signature, and I actually run 20psi. I have ran up to 22psi before. 22psi feels no different than 21psi. 21psi feels a little better than 20, but still, it's only for a few seconds. Seems like no matter how high you set the boost, it'll still drop back down to 19 to 20psi to redline. Not sure if it's the boost controller, or the gay intercooler pipes making it drop down by redline.

I do not have a datalogger, but I have ran the car on an AWD dyno, and on the stock ECU without the help of the SAFC, the car still runs pig rich after 5000rpm. I had to bump down the fuel quite a few percent on the SAFC to make the most power. A/F ratios at 20psi from about 5500rpm on was so rich it fell off the wideband O2's chart, which ends at 10:1. They tell me a very conservative yet power making ratio on these cars is between 11.5 to 12:1 or so A/F, and I am running between 11.4 to 11.7:1.

the reason why your 20 psi and 22 psi feels the same is because our stock wastegaste doesnt allow over 20 psi i do not believe.... get the hks wastegaste if and when available if you are really trying to run past 20 psi.... but i still do not think our stock turbo will make a huge diff past 20 psi and up....but the wastegaste will definately help.... as for incognito.. what part of va were you getting your gas and what name? i live in northern va... run 93 octane strictly only from mobil and exxon because they have the same formulas now since they are one company... my car runs fine.... i wouldnt c y the gas would b any different if the company was the same and the same octane rating..... you must have been using some no name gas!

its actually more an efficiency issue with running 22psi rather then a wastegate issue. Which is why the boost can't hold to redline and drops off. The turbo can't flow enough air to keep the car boosting 22psi. What might help is a larger turbine housing rather then a wastegate. The wastegate would be closed if the car was set at 22psi and only boosting a max of 20psi.

I'm runnin 20psi to redline on 94 octane. Strong and solid too.

Mods are:

- Buschur 3" turbo back
- S-AFC
- Buschur Intake
- Greddy Profec B spec

I have other mods but they don't contribute to more power.

man that would jsut be asking for trouble.... The car knocks on stock boost with 91 let alone turning up the boost with 91. I'll run my boost controller off which gives me the minimal 11psi on 91 then when I race i'll use race gas or a strong octane booster to get the points up in the higher 90's
