Question Intercooler piping....and Q's?. Vendors ps feel free.

-Hi, a q. maybe couple, looking for an intercooler upgrade, an option will be the HKS S-type or R-type, well this might be confusing, the S-type is a smaller type of intercooler, which means it has a less capacity of volume, and the R-type will be a bigger volume capacity, so for a stcok turbo, its better to go for the S-type since the turbo would not have to work harder and lag to give me the right pressure so the bigger intercooler which is the R-type is good for higher boost, do i make sense, now i wont to go for the whole piping kit, so yeah according to the back of my head, the smaller intercooler would be better, for a stcok turbo, do i make sense?

-Does anyone recomend any other type of intercooler?

-Mushroom filter over the stock box, people claim that the stock box is much better than the mushroom filter, if a drop in filter is used due to.... can someone explain?

Offcourse im goin to do a Ecuteck reflash.

ps dont tell me to search im trying to get all the info under one thread... thanx

Don't bother with an intercooler yet if your keeping the stock turbo the flow just isn't high enough where it seems to be a big restriction, plus intercooler upgrades are expensive. Better off with a pair of cams for that money.

By mushroom I take it you mean the HKS intake which people feel is overpriced for good reasons, it being 300+ while other solutions are around 200. AMS, Buschur, Apexi, Helix.. etc. (This is with the intake pipe not just the filter)

I don't think HKS have a type-S for the Evo VII - IX. They only have the type-R.

If you do know of a place that sells the type-S, please let me know.

But if you're getting the type-R, get ready to spend a few more dollars because you have to get the HKS blowoff valve as well.

I think if you're looking at the namebrand, then look into the Greddy Spec-R. www.500whp.com has it for $875. But if you do know where they have the HKS type-S, let me know.

Thanks

Not willing to repost the obvious I'll just say you better look into the hks EIDS with that purchase.

well dude , trust me when i say it this ..
from looking at ur signatures mod list..
you are going to waste over 1k $ for no power at all

you don't need an intercooler, seriously .. u're gonna pay 700 $ for like 9 whp ..
and on an ix you do not need an SSQV Bov .. BOVs are bad for evos and make them stall ! .. that's $300 gone to waste

if you have the plastic BOV , just upgrade to a JDM steel evo MR BOV ..

If you really need to hear your BOV sound, just get an intake ! .. since u are gonna get tuned ! after intake install, u're stock BOV will be almost as loud as an aftermarket BOV ..

that's 300$ for a performance Mod , not a psss mod ! ..

and as for the Intercooler which is useless on the stock turbo ! .. the Best way to go Are Cams ! .. awsome Gain ! and u wont be disapointed !

for the intercooler pipping, go for any pipping you like, but remember the lower IC pipe is where it adds Power ! ..
if i were you i would go like this

*Intake instead of BOV -- but remember u have to tune ur intake
*Cams instead of Intercooler and you'll save almost 200 $
*Boost Controller &Walbro 255FP

and with those mods you will Gain almost 40-50 whp with the tune u gonna use! on an IX ...& ur evo gonna rock instead getting 9-15whp off an intercooler +pipping and BOV ..

Change your LOWER ic pipe, it would make a BOG difference, believe me. The OEM unit is 1.5 inches in some parts. The Neisi or however you spell it makes the BEST lower IC pipe I have seen.

Keep the OEM Upper IC pipe, it works fine.
