How much knock if any with stock ecu
Hey guys last night i ran into this guy that swears up and down that the evo does not and cannont run 21-23 psi on 93 octane. He said anything over 14 psi there would be so much knock that there is no way that the motor is seeing that much boost. Ok so basically i wanted to argue with the guy just becuase stock evos run between 19-20 psi stock. Give or take on that. My biggest thing is if there is So much knock or what not then why isnt there more cars that detonate running those boost levels. I also told him that the real way of checking that would be to take a reading off the map sensor to get a true reading but then again, Your boost gauge shouldnt be 9 psi off now a couple of psi that is a possibility. Now that is based off what that guy said. He said he was getting his info from a memphis car forum from a guy hes been talking to that has an evo. Now If im completely seeing this wrong help me out here. Cause i really dont understand where he was coming from saying that there was no way the evo can run 21-23 psi on 93 octane. After i told him several times i run my car on 22-23 psi on 93 all day long. and that stock evos will run 19-20 psi stock give or take and you can do that on 91 octane.
it just busted my ***** the guy was trying to argue with me. I mean obviously if any at all there cant be that much knock because the way he was trying to put it there would be a crap ton of knock at 22 psi or so. Which would result in detonation which i tried to explain to him that i have never seen a stock car blow up because of detonation running 21-23 psi. Unless it was overreved or mis shifted.

So he made his argument based off what someone ELSE told him on a Memphis car forum? I'm not sure why you even posted something so stupid as him claiming we can't run more than 14psi, which is 5-6psi lower than stock. Hell, we don't even TAPER to 14psi...
Warr
What im trying to get at is that there is virtually little to no knock with stock ecu and running 21-23 psi on 91 or 93. Basically hes saying theres no way that our cars from the factory will run what they do stock or even up just a couple of psi. He doesnt believe that the motor actually sees that much boost with none to little knock. and apperently he has been doing research on the vehicle itself because he has been looking at getting one. So im just trying to show him that knock is not a problem and theres no problem with our cars seeing 21-23 psi on 91 or 93 octane.
there would be no way our cars could knock from factory knock causes emimsions to go up and mits wouldnt be able to pass the emissions standards with the car knocking and if the guy doesnt believe the car is running that much boost from the factory tell the dumb a** to just hook up a gauage in a stock evo and see for him self he would very quickly be shut up
Uh.... that guy is a complete moron. I'm surprised he made it past 5th grade. Here, show him the factory tech specs atttached. Look at the last two lines.
98 RON = ~93.1 US octane rating.

It's so entertaining to listen to people babble on about something they have no idea about only heresay. Moral of the story, dont argue with idiots, they will bring you down to thier level and beat you with experience.
buy a tactrix cable $100...download a logging program...log a wot 3rd gear pull...show him the knock sums column and shut him the fuq up...its that simple
+ w/ the cable you bought you can start tuning and logging your own car...lol
