Carbonetics Triple Plate any good ?

Hi all,

Just about to buy an ATS Carbonetics triple plate carbon clutch but i thought i would ask a few questions here before i go ahead and get one..

In normal road use how long should the clutch last ?

Can you buy new plates for them as and when you need them ?

If so how much are new plates ?

Has anyone had any issues with the clutch in question ?

Thanks

Phil

A lot of guys use the ATS Carbonetics clutch around here. It seems to be a pretty popular clutch because it stands up to a lot of abuse.

For normal road use that clutch is going to last forever. Give these guys a call: http://www.mynesperformance.com/shop/index.htm. They do a lot of installs and know the clutch pretty well.

Hi, Phil
I have ATS 3 pcs clutch since almost 2 years and it is still working perferctly.
I recommend use plates 1,100 for the street.

Im getting the twin disk installed as we speak. You sure you need a triple disk, the twin is rated to like 850 hp or something stupid like that.

I went with the twin carbon, no slippage at all. My car accelerates much more quickly than the stock(my installer removed the clutch pill/restrictor).
I would go with the twin unless you plan on making over 850 hp.

There website says 900PS max for the clutch, and it also says 1500PS for the tripple clutch and next to that says 1450 HP, so I would go with about 850 HP for the twin.

Get the tripple. I got the twin and ( I know this is opposite of how its supposed to work) the hotter it gets the more it slips. I can make one drag pass. On the 2nd pass, i have no clutch. I mean gone, slipping, nothing. This is at about 500whp. I had an exedy twin ceramic that I ran for a YEAR (over 100 passes) before swaping to this clutch because it was supposed to be better. The exedy held 700whp many many times on on the dyno and at the track. When i took it out to "upgrade" it was barely worn.

The carbonetics i have is the twin carbon 1100. I am in the process as we speak of spending another 1000$ to order the parts to make mine an 1350 tripple. Yea, i got screwed but oh well, live and learn.

On the up side, the carbonetics clutch is easier to drive and much quieter. The exedy is loud, kinda grabby to drive. But heck, for the price of the clutch, the cheap rebuilds, holding power, exedy is hard to beat. Mine wasnt even an HD pressure plate. Go figure. The exedy does do one annoying thing. When they get hot (one pass for me) you have to let it cool, else the discs warp a little and drag the flywheel. You get locked out of gears for about 5-10 mins until they cool. Point being, multiple back to back high horse power passes werent possible. Keep in mind, ive got a 10 sec car also, so none of this may apply on a lower hp car. Hope this helps.

That sounds like something is wrong with your clutch, its supposed to be the exact oppisite with carbon. Your are supposed to activly slip the clutch out slowly to heat it on purpouse before making a run at the track, because they dont grab barely at all cold.

Are you kidding me comeon he used it for a whole season of raceing. Its not superman.

I have one still havent put it on yet but the vendor i got it from says its there most sold clutch setup for raceing and no one and he made it clear to me no one has said one bad thing about it.

The only reason alot of people stay away is the high cost to rebuild it. Its almost 650 a plate.
