cat + slow = very

I'd like to see some dyno graphs: Test pipe vs. high flow cat. Has anyone done this?

I know that not all aftermarket high flow cats are created equally. I've seen a few Evos that do great with them on the dyno. Unfortunately, mine seems to be quite a bit restrictive.

If you've made really good power with an aftermarket cat, would you please post up the brand you are using?

Thanks in advance!

Get a test pipe.

Get metal and cover it it to make it look like a cat!

Someone on here has done it

i got a cat on my IX and made 334hp 338tq at TT.

Mods are licp,k&N drop in, ams tbe w/hfc, hallman mbc 22psi, walbro255, and tune

I got the cat for less noise and so i can pass emissions in NY.

How much do you think i will make without the cat?

I think it would pick up about 15whp on my car, but not sure about yours. I was having a lot of issues with boost retention on the dyno, and I suspect the brand of high flow cat I'm using.

Sigh... no one, for this long... Anyway... Here's my story:

Local dyno day, me with dynoflash turboback catless and a k&n drop in... Another guy, same year of evo, same dynoflash that was done on the same day mine was, k&n drop in, and a turboback exhaust with a high-flow cat.... The result:

About 10-15 whp difference between all the dyno runs.

Both were '03 Evo VIIIs, one was blue, the other silver (so, I guess the silver could make more power, cuz silver > bby)

It was definatly the silver color. At any rate, HFC's rob power, its a sacrifice you may have to make due to location, but florida dosent have emissions testing, so im all over that off road pipe.

I don't have dyno sheets but I can tell you that I picked up what felt to be considerable amount of power trading my Helix HFC for a test pipe.

I picked up 2PSI of boost and it doesn't taper nearly as bad at high RPM's as it did with the HFC.

I did 333whp/335ftlbs with a HFC. I put in a test pipe and the butt dyno definately noticed it up top. The motor felt less restricted up top. Dont have a dyno to prove the after but i could def tell the car was faster.

I would run a test pipe, but here in California it's a big gamble..Dont want to risk a huge fine..You could also purchase a stealth test pipe (test pipe stock cover)..
