Question Intake help??

I currently have the K & N Typhoon intake, which was on the car when I purchased it. I was told by several people that this intake sucked horribly and to get a different one. So I talked to a guy that works at the local shop where I get all my work done on my evo; he says I should not change it because all it is is a pipe, and it wont be any worse or better than another intake. Ok so now time for my no0b question...: How can a different intake make more power than this one, and what intake would you reccommend?

Thanks a lot for all reply's, i really appreciate the help

i would find a new tuner because obviously he doesnt know to much about evo's. the k&n typhoon intake is the worst intake ever. its hot just a pipe its a very hard intake to tune because where the maf is located. definetely get a new intake(aem, buschur, injen). take that intake of ASAP
