I was going to mention the same thread.

In the DSM days, people found it best to crush the 1g BOV until it took 19"hg to just crack it off it's seat. Use a mighty-vac or similar to apply vacuum to the top port. Not sure if the same number would apply to the EVO BOV, but that's where I would probably start.

I'm running a crushed and Gus-modded BOV in my EVO and couldn't be happier with it. I ran a Tial in the 2g for a while, but I probably have a total of 5 years on a crushed Gus-modded BOV... On my latest one, it was all done with 1/16th NPT fittings. Cleanest and most reliable implementation I've seen yet. In fact I get wood just thinking about it.

I think when you crush MR bov IT will flutter , not healthy for the turbo.

I've never seen that How-to thread before Trinydex. Great job putting all that info together. I'm also glad to see you put the link up to the original gus mod site. Gus Mahon deserves the credit for this nifty mod.

I'll add that I run a gus-modded 1g bov as well and have been for several years. Ran it on the '97 GSX before the Evo. Stock like driveability combined with the means to hold 30psi+(highest I've tested for myself) leak free. Couldn't ask for anything more from a bov setup.

I'm just curious why you run a crushed and gus-modded bov? Like I mentioned in the paragraph above, I've leak tested up to 30psi and noted no noticeable amount of leakage. Just seems to me that you would give up some driveability running it crushed.

There are varying degrees of "crushed." The 1g BOV is plenty soft to crush it somewhat and still have it release properly. It depends on cams and other things, but most poeple find they get some fluttering when crushing beyond 19-20"hg. I probably stopped somewhere around 16-17. Crushing it part way helps keep it closed in the high boost non-WOT situations you can encounter with a small turbo, until you hit WOT and switch to Gus mode. Certainly not necessary though.

That certainly makes sense. I compensate for situations like that as well, except I use the DSMLink nitrous controls to set the tps value I want the bov to switch. With the stock turbo I had it set to switch somewhere around 40% tps. Now with the 50trim I believe I have it set right around 55% tps. For those days I feel like scaring the **** out of any small children or animal that comes across my path, I set it at 0%.
