I am noticing the hard spring controls boost much better. There is basically no spike now, even when going WOT in 5th gear around 3600RPMS. Boost also just holds more solid.

Is there a difference in color or something with the different springs? How do you tell the difference?

the boostcontroller springs are not colored the stiff spring is for higher boost settings and the soft spring is for lower boost settings.
colored springs however come in the blow off valves and WGA forge rates the blue spring for bov at 20-25 psi witch i prefer to us the stiff red spring as they say it may cause flutter but it works the best.
how ever the red spring in the WGA is for 23-25 psi witch is the only one i will ever use in mine.

Hallman pro does the exact same thing..
I tuned the car for 23psi peak, and it would taper down to 16psi..
I dont think my spring is "broken in" yet either.

if your worried about boost tappering off at high rpm the problem is not the boost controller its the turbo itself is to small to hold boost through out the power band unless you go bigg turbo like a 35r wont tapper if you want the boost to tapper of slower i recommend a forge wga with the red spring and good pre load will slow it down and alow you to hold boost alittle better. or there is your other option of adding a 600 or 700 dollar boost conroller like the greddy eo1 or the hks evc 6 supposidly you can tune tapper out and or right down to slowly tappering down two pounds

when i put the hallman one, it would drop to around 15-16psi..

Boost tappering off into high RPM has more to do with the air bleed part of the MBC. The ball and spring part is more of a course adjustment that gets you quickly to your boost level. Then the air bleed helps control the slope up or down. Check out the Turbonetics BBC. It has click adjstments, comes with a bracket and comes with interchangeable air bleeds.
