Exhaust silencer test...

in the spirit of the "ebay purchased" knock off testing lately...

we tested one of the silencer inserts on an xspower turboback...

now, let me say this... I wasnt thrilled to test it, because i knew the backpressure etc affects it would have, but i was asked to do so..

FIRST THING:

IT IS PAINFUL! makes the car sound like a turbine jet... it actually hurt my ears...

car dropped from 348whp/316 wtq to 270whp/269 wtq and it lost 5 psi!!

kind of hilarious, my head still hurts!!!

I got one with my Megan exhaust, but I didn't use it. What's sad is that some people actually put it in to reduce noise and have no idea how much power it robs. It was actually someone like that where I originally saw how huge the power loss was. He was on PDT's dyno and couldn't figure out why his power sucked so bad for his mods, then they noticed he had the silencer and took it out. He immeidately jumped up around 40whp and the veil was lifted. He had actually been driving it that way 24/7 thinking it was no big deal...

Yeah it plugs into the huge fartcan tailpipe and has some little bolts that hold it in place.

I am running my JGT500 silencer right now. I don't drive it fast with it in because it sounds like my turbo is going to blow a seal. My silencer is way quieter than this EBAY one. When I get on it all that can be heard is mad air rushing out of what sounds like every connection in the exhaust. No aftermarket sound whatsoever. Power is down, lag is increased, but the "noise" is 98% gone. At idle it sounds like a pea shooters from a 69 VW

Cops won't look my way at all.
