Please help me choose a turbo for my 2.4L

I am building a 2.4, which will primarily run on 91 octane (Ca.). my mods will be 280 cams, aem ems, built cylinder head, 65mm TB, fmic, 880cc inj, 3" exhaust

Good transient response is important to me. I would like to make ~450-475 on a dj

I dont want a laggy turbo, as this will be my DD.

a 35r will be great for overall power, but is a bit laggy, I have driven a 2.3 & a 2.4 with all the good guy parts & the lag is more than "I" care for.

people are reporting the 3065 is laggy too.

will a 20g-LT just run out of breath?

3076?.....slightly more peak power than the 20g-LT with more lag???

all personal experience will be appreciated

"E-Pinions Fashion Turbo - Ball Bearing 50 Trim
You are the kind of guy that can spend a month trolling the internet searching for a turbo that can make 400 hp/400 lbs torque on pump gas and still spool like a stock turbo. You lose sleep over this Holy Grail. You plan on never using more than 100 octane gas and will live your life mostly on 91 octane."Mike W

Just out of curiousity what kind of parts are you running in your 2.4? I'm going to be moving up to a stroker kit soon and I'm looking for ideas. I would imagine that with a stroker you wouldn't have so much lag with bigger turbo kits like the 3065/3076. That is what kit I was looking at as well. I guess it's 50 trim then. You say you drove a 35r on a stroked motor? How laggy was it?

Aby, I think you may be looking for the 3076R. Or possibly some kind of hybrid like the FP 3065.

You may also want to just put together your own cold and hotside based on a GT30 series turbo.

the second attachment is an image, and I can't read it due to the small size, so can you explain the comparison a bit? I gather the first graph on turbotrix's dyno is a fp green turbo, but can't see what is on the AMS dynograph.

I really like my 50 trim, it's making about 420 whp (dynojet) on 93 octane and GSC 280's.

yeah, its a compare, but 2 differnt dyno's, 2 different corrections, etc....however, you still see the spool up characteristics....

I hear / read a lot of people liking they're 50 trim dbb....

"Street Power/Track ***** - Ball Bearing GT3076
Mostly 91 octane kind of guy but you like to play on some good race gas when you can afford it. You hit track days several times a year and may feel like busting off an 11 second run when you are in the mood. You value spool but dont lose sleep over it." Mike W

This is what I run and it is awesome.

"Track ***** Deluxe - Custom Ball Bearing GT35R
You live close to a race gas supply, maybe you sport a stroker motor, sometimes you go commando just for fun. You have spare wheels with R Compound rubber mounted and every track day your car is running you are there. Getting into a smooth freight train type pull here." Mike W

"Drag Queen/Race Gas **** - Ball Bearing Full GT35R
You live life 1/4 mile at a time and your spare tranny is with Shep. Full trailered road racer with a stroker fits this turbo too. For you "pump gas" is when you are out of C-16 and you suffer with a tank of 100 and keep the boost to only 25 psi." Mike W
