I will add more to my original post besides just a call XXXX - I was in the same situation and going with a "kit" may appear to be a lot cheaper at first, it may end up costing more down the line. I am not saying you are not capable of assembling a motor or anything - BUT... this is what they (Buschur,AMS,etc) do every day - all day. You may save yourself some headaches later on by getting an assembled shortblock and sending in your core (if its good). Not trying to be a dick or tell you what to do - Just advice from one evo owner to another who was in the same situation.

Oh...and I still stand by the statement - CALL BUSCHUR

The 2.3RR looks like a great motor, but it's also like twice the price of the standard 2.3. If you can afford it, give it a try, it looks to be promising.

I agree with ny-quil, getting a complete short block is the way to go, this way there's no worries about the assembly and tolarences.

Buschur, JAM, or AMS, in that order, would be my recommendation.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Generally, what does it cost to convert your car to a 2.3l (having it installed)? So the kit from BR is $3550, but what does installation run? Is the added 0.3 Liters really worth the investment or is a bigger turbo a better investment? (I understand if one were going with a huge turbo that the added displacement would help spool, but I am considering for a stock or 50trim type setup.) Thanks

Actually the "kit" is 2,595 - the 3,550 is for an assembled short block with your good core. The way I looked at it is to have some machine shop check and cleanup your block and install the crank/rods/pistons would be 500$+ easily depending on where you take it. Do you want just any machine shop that works on all sorts of stuff working on your 4G63 OR a shop that specializes in it?
No sense saving a few hundred dollars on something so important.....

Does a machine shop like JAM actually do installations or do you have to send them the block and or head? My experience with most machine shops is the parts need to be out of the car....

either ams or buschur is the way to go. if it were me id buy an assembled shortblock instead of buying the kit and having to worry about bore/hone and so on. you could just buy the assembled shortblock and ship them your good core and be done with it. plus thered be less down time more than likely.
