When is a new clutch needed?
Car is IX MR, mods will be in the following weeks apexi intake, greddy ti-c catback, hfc don't know what kind yet, bushur dp, walbro 255, hallman mbc, and then a tune not sure what kind of exact whp this will give me but not sure if it will be time for a new clutch just yet. By the way this is one of two cars i have I do drive a few days a week and yes i do drive how it is supposed to be driven just don't launch it to much.
There isnt a formula for this. I think it depends on how much your launching the car. My VIII has been through many dyno pulls over the last three years....and I drive pretty hard on the street....but I haven't launched the car or tracked it so its holding up for now. All depends on the driver.
You'll need a new clutch once your current one starts slipping. Not trying to sound like a dick, but that's really it. I would suggest getting one now just because if you plan on driving hard you'll need to anyways down the road.
Just as the others above stated, there is no specific time that you should replace the clutch. When the currrent one starts slipping that's when it should be replaced. As they say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The only exception to this is if the motor or transmission is out of the car for some reason and you want to do preventive maintenance and have it replaced while you're in there.

Well there it is. Could'nt have been said any clearer. Good idea to keep your eyes peeled for a sale on a nice clutch, even if you don't need it right now. I doubt I will make it through the race season with mine.
Not counting hard launches, the stock clutch will hold close to 450whp as measured by your average AWD Dynojet. So once you approach 400whp, or if you're into drag racing, it's time to start saving your pennies.

I just bought my 2003 Evo8 with 48K miles, still on the original clutch the previous owner toe and heel alot from what he told me to save the clutch. is that even true?
I thought toe and heel kills the clutch a lot quicker.

no the clutch doesnt wear when its fully loaded, unless your exceding its torque capacity. so yes - heel toe saves the clutch.
i do the opposite - i use the clutch during engine breaking so i wear mine out even during breaking
