oil leak after cam install

I have a pretty good oil leak after I installed 272's. I tried to fix it myself to no avail...I put rtv where I was supposed to and used all new gaskets vc/spark plug grommets/and new cam seals.

Almost looks like you left out one of the inner bolts. If you really cranked down on the bolts there's a chance you cracked the VC. I'd wipe everything down, start the engine, and try to pinpoint the leak.

^^^i agree with him. Go back and make sure all the bolts that hold the valve cover down are in. The ones that you would look for should be located around the plug wires and coils. If they are all in you may of torqued one down too tigh and cracked your cover

you may want to silicone the gasket to the valve cover-( after you clean it) and then put oil on the gasket side that meets with the head...that way you can take the VC on and off, and insure a good seal for several removals and inspections..FYI

The only other thing i can tell you to check is to pull your plug wires out and make sure there is not oil inside of the plug holes. One of the seals that goes round the spark plug hole on the backside of the valve cover could of fallen off when you putting it back on.

like everyone else said it could be a crack...some cracks can be very very small and un seen..i did the same to my VC..took it off last nite and fixed the crack...hopefully its all good now...still have to do a test..

some cracks you cant see..my buddys dsm had the same problem and couldnt find the crack..

just carefully look for cracks and all bolts...GL

do me a favor go take a picture of the top of the valve cover again.....directly over the top and take it wide enough so that i can see all spark plug wires. Then also go pull out all of the plug wires and take another pic. After you do all that post the two pics on here.

ewww. i think that is more than a leak...

i would first pull the vc back off to check and see if the gasket sealed/seated properly. it is possible that the seals around the spark plug holes are not seated properly. seeing alot of oil in the valley of the coil packs gives me the indication of those seals not seating there, but again it could be cracked in that area as well. it may not been seen until it is heated up. good luck

it looks like there's a missing bolt in the first picture, bottom of the picture, just south of the plug boot.

That's for the sparkplug "MITSUBISHI" cover I think.

Edit: My bad. clicked on photo to enlarge it, and you might be right!

IDK if it's just the picture or what but, it looks like the bolt right under the #3 spark plug is missing.

If not, did you clean everything you were putting silicone on real well with brake clean or something similar? If there is oil on the surface silicone will not adhere and you might as well not put any on. However judging by the mess I would lean towards a crack, o ring around plug fell off or moved, or missing bolts.
