thoughts on slowboy racing?

well im looking into motor builds now(made a lot of threads about it lately)either built 2.0L,2.1L or 2.3L..

well i was searching on slowboyracing.com and came across a 2.1L destroked kit for $1699...way to good to be true.

wiseco pistons, crank, rods, bearings, everything came with it( at least from what the picture shows.

now from what i remember curt brown was using a SBR 2.1L with his record 10.5 pass on stock turbo.

now what are your thoughts on this 2.1 from SBR??i want to go AMS but they want $9,000,but its fully assembled etc..and i think $9gs is crazy but probably well worth it..

if anyone has any info on thsi id appreciate it,thanks...

also what will i have to do to my block to have the SBR 2.1L fit etc etc...thanks

I dont really know how the de-stroke 2.1 kit runs compared to the 2.3. I beat one in my 2.0 and didn't really think much about it. As far as the company goes, I've never had any problems with the motor parts I bought from them, they are really great with customer service and I still call them up if I have a question. They even send me Christmas postcards :-)

AMS makes a Stroker Short Block Kit with Ross Pistons, AMS specially designed quench area, Eagle Rods, ARP Main Stud Kit, AMS Race Machined Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit & Rod & Main Bearings. Includes Machine Work On Block & Crank.
for $3,250.00 and was used on the 1041awhp Black and Silver evolution. Thats what I plan on doing this winter

i talked to curt and im pretty sure he spun a rod bearing with the 2.1 destoker motor and he told me he lost 50whp and 80ft/tq going 2.1....

he said your best bet is to go built 2.0 ..

I'm kind of new to this, could someone explain what the advantages of a 2.1l are and for that matter why is it called de-stroked? (Sorry I know its a stupid question)

2.1 can rev higher than a 2.0 due to rod ratio, more diplacement than 2.0 obviously, better build.

Slowboy is sick amazing customer service can talk to whoever helps you whenever you need and ship fast.

what are your goals with the car?

a built 2.0 is definitely the best for drag both buschur and ams use built 2.0s for dragging so that is a big sign right there

With your 35, I would think about a 2.3. There are some high reving 2.3s and not all of them cost a ton of $.

i want it to be able to still be daily driven, hit low 10's high 9's(possibly 37R swap)...

i want to run about 630-650 on race gas on a 35R and crack 700 on 37r if i go that route..

it will be a street car and weekend drag car(if hawaii opens up tracks again)

I bought lifters from SBR for a DSM I was building for a customer. Half of them would not bleed out so I purchased 8 more from them. Sent the 8 bad ones back being told I would have a credit on my card when they received them. That was about 11 months ago, I use to call about twice a month and believed that "it was coming soon" and I should just "wait until your next billing cycle and you will see the credit".

What they were doing was stalling me past the 3 month period so now I cannot dispute the charges with my credit card company. Now they deny ever receiving the package even though I could give them the UPS tracking # and even the name of who signed for them.

You know, its only $75, but still. I am a shop, who purchased a fair amount of stuff from them in the past. To me, if they want to lose a repeat customer over a silly $75 then it tells me what kind of business they are running.

Post #14 sums up what I think in general about the motor/ motors and who is best to build one for you.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...&highlight=sbr

With that being said it is my opinion that 90% of the people building a fast street car should run a 2.0l or a 2.3l combination. It really depends on where you spend most of your time - on the street or at the track. If you spend most of your time joy riding - the 2.3l motor cannot be beat. If you need to run the motor to 9k to impress the lady's - well I would stick with a 2.0l.

2.1l motor is a very specialized motor - meaning it does what it is suppose to do very well, and that is safely run 10k plus if your valve train is up to the task. Most people DO NOT NEED this in a street car. I myself, will be installing the 2.1l from our rally car into my street EVO IX because I really like the motor!

We have hundreds of dyno runs this year on the rally car - albeit through a 34mm restrictor using only a TME 15G variant - and it is very simple, more displacement means more torque early on in the RPM's without losing HP in the upper RPM's... now keep in mind to me upper RPM's through a restrictor is only 7k - your mileage may vary!

90% of the EVO motors we build start with brand new cores - and yes building one is not cheap - most motors run 7k-10k with no core due - so in my opinion 9k is certainly not out of the question. For me just to build the new 2.5l we just finished would cost well over 5k just for the shortblock alone - !!!

In any event - you have narrowed it down to two very good people.
