weird... and I was always under the impression that you werent supposed to tip a battery on its side... I heard it could cause battery acid to leak out- no idea if thats true or not, but having one on its side for lower center of gravity makes sense. looks cool! hell of a deal to

This one is fully sealed. It comes with mounting holes for either top of side.

very clean install - looks like it came like that from the factory

It's the same battery as the "braille racing battery" although they will deny it.

You can also find this same battery re-labeled under the "Carquest" brand with the same ETX14 part number.

I called East Penn directly with my questions. I run this battery now in my car.

I made my setup for around $80

I have this battery installed as well, you can check out pics in my sig on pgs 6 and 7 as well as a semi-write up. The lowest its been here since I have installed it is 30 and it's cranked up fine.

PS, The Braille Auto Lightweight Battery Mount kit will fit these batteries as well. I've seen them go for about $65-70.00.

Has anyone noticed this 'dimming' with their HIDs with the A/C on? It's already 95 degrees here!

I've ran my HIDs with this and my AC, but haven't done it both together as its still chilly once the sun goes down. I'm sure I'll be trying it out real soon though as I'm moving to southern Arizona in 2 weeks.

Braille sells the battery alone with posts for what...$200? No tray included. That is a rip, branded or not. I can see paying $150 or so for a custom machined tray, but that is another story.

I don't think that HIDs would dim and brighten with voltage fluctuations since the power going to the HID bulbs is regulated by the ballasts...besides when the car is running, the alternator should be keeping the operational voltage close to or slightly over 14 volts. If it's dimming when the AC comes on, I doubt that has anything to do with the battery.

sure it starts fine but what about power loss? i know it might seem like there's no problem but sometimes the loss isn't really noticeable.

Yeah I'm wondering the same thing...the battery does "back up" the alternator if more amps are drawn then the alternator can handle, but that would rarely happen. In fact, that would only happen on cars with high powered stereos, or cars with defective alternators. The stock alternator has more than enough capacity to power all the OEM electrical equipment in the car, so I don't see how switching to a mini battery would adversely affect electrical power.

The only two things you lose by switching to a mini battery are CCA and reserve capacity. I think the ETX14 is like 12 amp hours, compared to the stock which is more like 35 AH. If you want a mini battery that doesn't compromise on CCA, check out the Batcap 800. Batcap have a high peak amperage output, and the 800 model only weighs 14 lbs. These batteries can discharge as quick as a capacitor, so they're great for audio applications.
