Clutch slipping with 20g-9-5.

I have a ACT HDSS and it's worked awesome for over 2 years. But with the new turbo, it slipped very slightly since the first time I got on the gas, Now I can't get on the gas hard at all without slippage. Would you guys recommend going with the same setup or trying something new? I'm looking to spend the same amount of money.

2 years is pretty good. How many launches? How many miles?

I would get the extreme with the organic disk (2900lb pp vs. 3200lb pp). I think mine is coming to the end of its serviceable life (about 2 years) and I plan on getting the same thing

IMO, a street disc is useless. If you're serious about racing or about going fast.....a puck should have been your first choice. upgrade once. Try a xtreme plate and a sprung 6 puck (MD7-XTG6), it's what I plan on going with.

Why is it worthless? I know some people running GT3076 turbos with the street dics and they're just fine. Everything is a tradeoff.

maybe I should have used different terminolgy. Here is what I should have said. "Don't expect a street disc to last too long on a high powered car"......but this doesnt quite hit the nail on the head. Once again, IMO, if you are serious about racing...I dont think a street disc should be in the equation. With the 20-9 a street disc is ADEQUATE, but for how long and under what driving conditions. I would recomend a puck.

Your clutch slippage can partially be credited for the turbo. No doubtb that the turbo upgrade increase whp and tq but a clutch doesn't just give up for such mod.

Mostlikely your clutch was on his last stage of life before you did the turbo upgrade.

I would go with an Exedy Twin HD cerametallic - don't mess with another organic single disk.

+2 I've got 35k miles on my Exedy and it's just now starting to feel weak. Not slipping but this thing has taken some serious abuse. Going on 3 seasons of drag racing.

Thanks for the replys, as I said I want to send the same amount of money. I did notice that on launches, it held rpms in one spot until it the speed caught up to match so it was slipping then. I'll try the Xtreme plate with a 6 puck spung disk.

I'm sure it holds the tq. fine, but I obviously need something new.

What are the trade-offs with a sprung 6 puck? How is everyday drivability? Stop and go traffic? What are the benefits? Thanks.

The 6-puck (or any pucked disk) will be very grabby and hold power wonderfully. You could do 7k clutch dumps, and that sucker will rip out of the hole until the rest of the drivetrain explodes.

The downside is it will have very harsh engagement, mainly when starting from a stop in 1st and reverse. You have to rev up higher than normal to get started, and it won't want to slip. It's really sucky for stop and go traffic, fine for daily driving without traffic, and usually great at the track.

I'm basing these comments off my Exedy stg2 4-puck cerametallic that I used for a while and from witnessing a friend of mine drag race with his ACT 6-puck.

Well, sucky in stop and go traffic in LA = Negative, Ghostrider. I will stick with an organic street disc and the 3200lb pressure plate
