Shep Trans "Ultimate Ratio" Gear box Review

My new gear box is a Shep Trans "Ultimate Ratio" trans which was put together by Shep to utilize the best forward gears from the 2003 - 2006 Evo 8 and IX in one trans. With the use of longer 1st and 4th gears the selction of gear ratios is "ultimate."

I just put this sucker in this evening

You can note from the attached dat log that 1st gear pulls up to 53 mph at just over 10,000 rpms and when you shift to second the rpms are in a much better part of the power bacn than on the previous stock Evo 8 gears

Here is a data log of a 1 2 and 3rd gear pull

I am very impressed with Shep Trans and highly recomend this new gear box

I will be intrested to see if you gain any mph from the gear change.

I guess this was needed because you were already running so high through the traps in 4th.. You needed the longer gear..

Al you are on the 4.11 final drive also right?

The ultimate ratio is for ANY EVO even one with stock power

It makes the speeds and rpms at each gear change point more consistant and better matched to our cars

I wanted to add that the prep and finish on this shep trans was better than new. Its really an amazing unit and it shifts like a dream right out of the box!

Very interesting Al....When I first got my MR, I felt the gear ratios could have been a bit better and wanted different options...Glad Shep is going this route...

So is this just for straight line guys?

Or are there benefits for road racing/autocross guys?

Curious as well ---- is this an ideal straight line setup, or are the new ratios equally as tractable in the twisties?

Also --- other than a swap from the 6 to the 5 speed, is there a similar upgrade path for the 6 speed tranny?

Thanks!

If Al doesn't respond, I e-mailed Shep about this, and will post his response as soon as I get a reply.

4.11 Final Drive would make for taller gears right? Load the car better in 1st and 2nd for be big big turbo guys. Making the gears not so pointless and keeping you out of 5th for stroker guys through the traps.

That's the way i always understood it?
