ACD transfer: noob question

Sorry if this has already been adressed somewhere, but i searched for awhile and could not come up with anything to satisfy my curiousity.

What I'd like to know is this; what is the idle state of an active center diff?
when it is not recieving and feedback, for example, when it is out of the car, or disconnected from the control unit.
Is it normally in an open state, or locked?

I assume it's normally open, but I was hoping for confirmation and perhaps some elaboration.

thanks for your attention, and again, sorry if this has already been covered,
mods if you need to delete this please shoot me a PM.

Its a sticky on this section of the forums just look at the top.

The ACD will not attempt to lock the diff until the front wheels are spinning faster then the rear ones. Then its a matter of steering input and delay times before they unlock. The modes also effect the clamping force.

i've read the thread you are reffereing to, what i want to know specifically, what is the neutral state of the ACD. i assumed that it would be open, since the control unit has to send a signal to the hydraulic actuator to bind the clutches, but then i saw this thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...&highlight=ACD
which suggests otherwise.

thanks for the input though.
can anybody put this to bed?
