They are to help reduce driveline shock/vibration. The disk is connected to the springs and the springs are connected to the hub. They are called dampened disks. They are just two methods for designing a clutch disk.

So why doesn't the 4 and 6 puck have them?

The springs on the disc are also there to dampen torsional vibration for quieter operation (less noise).

ACT also makes sprung hub 4 and 6 pucks discs for all applications including the Evo. The part numbers are 6240608 for the 6 puck and 4240508 for the 4 puck.

I like the unsprung 6 puck from ACT as the disk is lighter and allows lightening fast shifts. It rattles a bit on decel but not a big deal on some of these cars with the loud exhaust.

Best Value there is for an evo Clutch.
