Problem with 2nd gear

Hey guys,

I know im gonna get busted with the use the "search" but I don't have all day to search for this and I want some help.

So, the problem. I started noticing the end of last week that say if I am in second gear at about 2-3k rpms. If i want to get on it, as it builds boost it starts to choke feels like fuel cut (I was used to that in my MazdaSpeed Protege). When it cuts, it does it a few times, as i builds boost... i want to say around 4,000 rpms and up.

Now If I wind out first and then go into second it doesnt do it, it also doesnt do it in any other gear. At first i thought it might be spark plugs, but if it was them then it should be doing this in every gear. The only thing I can think of is an ECU problem, I will be calling the shop that did the work to my car today and heading up there tomorrow to pic up some stuff. Tell me what you guys think.

What do you mean it doesn't go into gear? Is it grinding? Is it locked out? Does it feel notchy? It kind of sounds like to me the normal Evo shifting problem. You can fix some it by purchasing aftermarket transmission and shifter bushings along with a front motor mount. Some people prefer the poly and others the metal ones.

No there isn't a problem with it getting into the gear, no grinding or anything. Its just upon hard acceleration it will choke or hit fuel cut as it is building boost and the car hesitates.

I assume you have tried putting it in 4th or 5th at 2K RPM and pulling at full throttle to verify 100% that the problem is only present in 2nd gear?

3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th... (MR) do not have this problem. Only 2nd, I have called the shop that did the work, its possible there is a blip in the map that may be causing this problem, I am going to see if he can't put it on the dyno for me tomorrow.

Very odd! It certainly sounds like a software issue.

So yesterday, I replaced the spark plugs with the correct NGK Iridiums, did an oil change (royal purple), and installed my test pipe. Then went to take a test drive...

Now the car had been sitting for at least 4 -6 hours while i was out trying to find a store that had the spark plugs instock, which no one around here did so i got screwed by the dealer ($17 a pop). And once I got it out, i put my foot to the floor and it was fine the car took off like it was brand new.

Then a little later after some driving it started doing it again, I am wonderin if it is an ECU issue or could there be something that is getting over heated and it is making the car buck like it does, I did notice a small blip in 3rd gear now as well. The owner of the shop is taking a car down to NOPI at MIR this weekend, I will be going down sunday, and hopefully I can talk with him about it and schedule a time to have him put it on the dyno and re-tune my car.
