305awhp Evo shatters RS diff :(
A local here with a low 12 second car just did the same thing to his ACD t-case. Diff exploded. cracked t-case in half. Bad part was in destroyed his 6speed tranny as well. He admits he revved to 6k and dumped the clutch. Car only had 11k on it. I guess you could say his was prestressed as well. Or that drivetrain parts do break on AWD cars on a hard launch.
This guy (broeli) is a road racer, not drag racer as far as I know. Not sure of the history of the TC before he got it though.

I was standing10ft from this car when it "went". No big noise, no high rev launch. Kinda wierd when it let go (he drove 1 foot then nothing). When mine blew on the dragstrip, it popped SUPER loud, and lifted the wheels off the ground almost, then the "black soot/smoke" poured out the vent and fenderwells. Complete opposite here.

I very rarely make drag strip passes. Usually only if it is part of an event. My Evo isn't even driven much on the street. It is primarily used for road course racing and autox'ing.
I dont know but it seems that there has to been something else going on...
If not then you definitely got some sh!tty luck. How much did you spend so far on the 2 diffs and a new shell ?

Eli.....get an extra set of shims from Mitsu....you have to set the gear lash correctly. When I installed mine I noticed the LSD was a bit looser than the stock open diff. A few thousands of movement can mean a lot.
I am curious if you are a little too low on your suspension causing the stub axles to bind slightly inside the diff when you launch. Just a hunch.
If you need an open diff to keep the car on the road...I have one sitting in a box in my attic.

Wow i just read this from the beginning and saw the date back in 2007. And then i got to you recent post...I am sorry to hear about this. Good luck with the Qualife diff and I hope you get her back up and running soon!
Subscribed. I'm curious as to the post in reference to having a lower suspension. If I'm currently running 25mm spacers on the front could this be doing more harm than good? I now have the Quaife LSD on my to-buy list once I return from Iraq.

Needless to say I'm going with a Quaife
