Just picked up 06 MR, Looking for Suggestions

I just bought an 06 MR, I'm looking at doing some decent upgrades. I don't want to make it an 8 sec car yet. I'm looking to do some pretty decent bolt on upgrades. I don't want to dip into the engine yet. I"m looking for a solid set up that can be further tweaked once i feel its time to crack open the engine. I owned a 3000 vr4 before, and i just added fuel turbo and exhaust and was able to get pretty decent gains. CaN I do similar upgrades to the evo? Basicly i'm looking for 11's or low 12's. Whats the mose direct route to get me there? Any info would be great. thanks.

Hi, you should get a TBE, mbc, and a drop in filter and get it reflashed and tuned.

Well do you want/have the cash to blow it all one time? I think sliced has a great place to start, play with that for alittle while, then maybe throw in IC+piping, meth, or whatever. but if you build it all at once, you're gonna always want more. 2.3 stroker... bigger turbo... it never ends.

No matter what mods you put on, w/o a reflash or tune, youre never gonna see the full potential of the parts... or the car for that matter. An EMS is a really good thing to have and itll always be there to tune when you decide to add someting else.

I would learn the limits of the car first before you do any mods.

BTW, congrats on the purchase.

definitely consider a 3'' turbo back exhaust, intake system or drop-in filter, eletronic or manual boost controller, upgraded BOV (i prefer metal JDM MR BOV) - to hold boost better. These are pretty standard stage I mods that will require a reflash or tune to see the true potential of these mods.

Look into the warrtalon package. IMO its a great deal and you will be getting a nice chunk of power for $1270. It covers all the basics. TBE, boost gauge, boost controller and most important a tune

Some of the little mods that go a long way to make the car faster:

Remove the clutch restrictor pill in the slave cylinder. This will allow more direct clutch feel and it wont slip even if you have let off the pedal. Very normal for DSM and 3SI's so if you have done it on one of those you know what I am talking about.

Get the right intake. I do not sell parts for people, I dont normally recommend parts, but when you can put them on and NOT have them affect other systems adversely you know its worthwhile. The Buschur Filter/Pipe kit is the one to get if you arent going to just go with a drop in.

BOV are not needed other than the sound that they make. The IX is all metal, and you already have the JDM MR valve as factory equipment.

Take some weight out of the car. When at the track take out all the crap that doesnt need to be there.

Lower intercooler pipe. The upper is a questionable upgrade, but the restriction caused by the lower pipe necking down to about 1.5" or less definitely needs to be addressed.

Tuning and flashing are the same thing. Flashing is better than the fuel controllers and such you mentioned. When you get tuned have your tuner select the boost they tune. They will adjust timing/fuel accordingly and get you running safely. I suggest a custom tune to get the best performance you can.

I think it would be a good idea to at least spend 5 minutes researching this car and its mods before posting new threads. All of your questions can be answered with some research, and then you can make an informed decision. Also, there is a newbie forum made specifically for newbies and newbie questions.

Great choice on the Evo IX...
