How to tell if you have cams?

I've never really heard a stock evo idle, but mine(used), got it few months ago....sounds as though it may have cams..kind of has the "domestic" idle...but is there a sure free way to tell?

Take off your oil filler cap and look inside. I *believe* stock cams are hollow, and you'll see a hole in some parts of the cam.

oh man, look out for the "RESEARCH FIRST ****'s", they are forming up in cyberland...

do the rpm's fluctuate at idle?? almost seems like the car is going to stall out? I have the HKS 272's, without bleeding the lifters install...idle is choppy, about 200-300rpms from normal idle... sometimes sounds like the car is going to stall.

if u think it has cams it probly does.....as long as it doesnt miss like u need plugs when your driving...then the looping sound is cause of the cams

^^I believe it should be around 19-20 stock. Mine was used with cams and the vacuum was at about 13. Took it to a shop, and they verifed I had cams by just looking quickly. Finding out the brand and type is a different story.

ix cams are hollow as well. If you have cams you will be in the 10-12 inhg range on the vac side of the boost gauge. If you are in the 15-20 range you have stock cams more than likely.

Usually if your car has camshafts the exhaust will have a "wowowowowo" sound(haha thats the best i can do), let alone as to a constant exhaust sound.

Pull the valve cover. It only takes a couple of minutes.

If there's a hole on one side, then... If you don't see one, then put the cap back on and give your car a quick crank and check again. Or take the cam gear cover off and turn your cams slowly. If you don't see a hole, then it's a big possibility they aren't stock. Most aftermarket cams are not hollow.
