Do I Need a Lightweight Flywheel?

Need some advice. I plan on getting the ACT HDSS clutch & am not sure if i also need a lightweight flywheel. Kind of on a tight budget which is why I'm asking, and how much of a benefit it is w/my mods. All my mods are in my sig and i plan on only making about 470-500whp until a rebuild and will mostly be a street car, track it rarely. What do u guys think?

Technically you don't need a light-weight flywheel although if you do plan on getting one, putting it in the same time you get your clutch put in would save you labor costs. With a light-weight flywheel you'll be able to rev faster.

So technically revving faster would mean faster acceleration?

A little, I had one on an old civic SI hatch, it made some difference, but as expensive as they are for the evos I would say **** it unless you are wanting to do something crazy and all out.

Don't know what you are paying for the ACT, but maybe you should try calling Road Race Engineering. THey may be able to give you a deal on their "No-name" clutch and flywheel combo.

lightweight flywheel will allow you to rev quicker but is trickier to launch,, the car will launch easier on a stock flywheel..

I just had both the No-Name Flywheel and No-Name 2900lb PP clutch installed on my car. Love it.

Yes they are pretty good bang for the buck parts

With a lightweight flywheel, you'll find yourself "blipping" the throttle to match revs a lot --- and you'll probably like it . . . ALOT.

You know what I noticed? That with the throttle hang on the '05's, you end up being at the perfect rpm when you choose the next gear. Yes, the lightweight flywheel drops revs quicker, but when you mix that with the hang, things work out. Plus, the car will be marginally faster with less mass for the engine to turn

Any insight from ppl w/ACT HDSS or other street clutch w/stock flywheel? Still debating, i've read a couple OP where some don't reccommend a lightweight flywheel w/your milder clutches

I just got my ACT clutch and streetlite flywheel installed this week. The revs drop a little faster but it isn't an incredible difference... maybe it would be with the prolite flywheel, I think its a couple pounds lighter.

I like the way the clutch feels though. I've driven some performance clutches on other cars and it was way too much work. The ACT has an almost stock feel with a little more grab and a little bit stiffer.

Comparing to stock, are u able to rev a lot faster or a little bit faster?
