Post EVO Suspension noises?

Hey guys...

My EVO just recently started making some strange plunking noises in the driver side rear. It only happens when I'm driving over bumpy roads. It did this since new...but really seems like its gotten alot more frequent lately. Its Almost like a popping noise of some sort.

I use to get the noise only when I was exiting driveways with tall curbs. Now its happening on the roads alot over bumpy roads.

Anyone else have anything similar going on?

I've got 5300 miles on my baby so far...

Check to see if the dealer left the spring spacers in the front suspension. The dealer left them in mine. I wasn't really noticing any noise, but then again, I usually play my stereo loud and don't drive over too many bumpy roads.

There were two spacers on each of my front springs. They look like a rubber block with notches in it for the coil to rest in. If you have them, all you've got to do is jack the car up and they will come right out if you pull on them.

I don't know if this is the problem or not, but its a good place to start. I think if you do a search you can find a thread where someone actually posted some pictures of what the spacers looked like.

Here is the thread if you are interested:

Thanks for the tip. I actually checked all 4 springs and they look clean to me. The problem I'm having is specifically when driving over bumps. It seems as though when either the front or rear spring on the driver side of the car compresses (more than likely the front one)....its creates this PLUNK popping type of noise for a brief second. Not every single time...but its pretty consistant. It's starting to become annoying. The passenger side does not seem to do that.

I'm gonna mention it at my 7500 mile dealer service.

i know i get a creaking from the rear springs since i put the Eibachs on... but if you look at the spring when it is compressed there is no space between the coils on the bottom half of the spring...

it makes a creak when i go over big bumps (like my driveway), cause there is no space between the coils...

I can't remember if the stock coils were the same way...

I get a clunking from the right front. pulling in and out of driveways, over speed bumps etc etc.

Didn't start till they replaced my tranny. I assume they pulled the subframe when they swapped the tranny so it's probably a swaybar end link or something on mine.

Check all the swaybar mounting/bushing points on the rear, also look for clearance problems with the lines on the left rear. Might also want to check the tops of the rear shock towers and make sure everything is tight and seated well.

Mine just started doing this today for no reason. Could it be a bad shock? Time to call the dealer.

Well guys....all my suspension noises have gone away.
As it turns out...I was running low tire pressure on 2 of my wheels. I had 3 nails which needed to be pulled out!
I'm all patched up now, tires rotated and no more noises. My car also doesn't pull to any one side anymore.

go figure..

No spring plunking noises for since the dealer visit.

I don't have any nails or low pressure. Hmmm.
