btw the specs of grit you see are from honing the other cylinders and not some kind of wierd pits.

ok...so your skirts look like crap now...either that or the barrel section of your piston does, as it didn't quite have the right clearance for thermal expansion

pics of pistons..?

+1, Please post pictures of the pistons and rings (including the oil support rail if one was used). Look on the end of your piston ring ends for signs of them making contact with each other. Make sure the ring grooves have no strange scratches, or pits as well.

I'll post pics of the pistons and rings when I get home but bascially they got pretty hot. On one of the cylinders ,before I honed it out, the rings actually got really hot and got stuck and rubbed the wall pretty good

It looks like the most prominent scoring aligns with the ends of the piston pins. I would expect more side loading perpendicular to the pin.

The honing looks good but looks bad where the rings dragged

it looks like the piston was biting the cylinder wall, well above where the top ring reaches.

are there any other cylinders with similar wear issues?

did you over heat or detonate pretty hard due to bad gas?

on durabuility engines, it was fairly common to see pistons experience erosion prallel to teh piston pin / on both ends of the piston pin & on the intake squish side of the piston too.

look @ the ends of the rings to see if they butted up to each other, if so, there will be a shiny spot on each end if it happened.....

I was going to ask how you could tell which section but then looked at how high in the cylinder the scarring went...good call
