Question Cam Help

I just got a pair of gsc 280 cams and was under the impression that they would be alright to run on the stock valvetrain, but when I talked to my local dsm mechanic he said you should upgrade the springs and retainers also so that you wont drop any valves and cause serious damage. Need imput from those running these cams or other 280s is this necessary I a, short on cash and need to figure this out. also if running upgraded valvetrain what was the cost on install, thanks any help is appreciated

if your gonna go ahead and install cause u got the cash thats great but u dont "need" to upgrade unless u plan on running over 8k. My limiter is set at 7600 and it will go there all day everyday with the 280s and stock valvetrain, it has for well over a year. By the way I have GSC 280s so just speakin from personal experience.

There is greater chance of floating a valve on stock springs and retainers. Also overlap might become an issue with 280's. What is the lift spec??

GSC's webpage says 280's are for built heads. 10.8 at 280 degrees is agressive. I would listen to your DSM buddy. That is just my opinion.
