boost leak?

ok, i have a question. how can you tell if you have boost leak?

my brother tried to launch the car last night with my evo.
he somewhat dumped the clutch around 5k rpm and stepped on the gas but the car just jumped forward a little and it really didnt go anywhere.
the engine reved to about 6500 rpm but the wasnt really moving i smelled this horrible clutch burning smell for like 10 min.
now this morning im driving to work and it seems like the car does not pull as much it did after 3200rpm.
thankx for all your help guys.
btw, this was the car's first attempt to launch like that. i've been babying it for about 1000 miles and the car has about 1300 miles.

i did that once too, but the clutch is fine now... it stunk for about 10-15 minutes like u said, and then i did a few reverse gear launches and then i let the car sit all night.. after a few days of easy driving (not slipping the clutch much in traffic either, but rather letting go of the clutch faster and living with the jerkiness) it's now fine!

i even went to the track and launched it many times at around 5grand (not 6500 though) ..

the key to launching with the stock clutch is NOT to slip very long.. but rather letting go.. almost dumping it, in other words... it takes a little practice..

i still don't like it, but it's ok.. i'm getting a new clutch as soon as i can afford it.. i'm thinking about the $199 6 puck disc that goes awesome with the stock parts.. the only expensive thing is the installation i guess..

get a boost gauge and see that way..

it could be a boost leak, but i highly doubt it..

it could also be the clutch slipping a little at the high rpms... test out the clutch by sitting in 3rd or 4th gear on the highway and from around 2500 rpms to a WOT run.. if the rpms rise really fast and then bounce back, then your clutch is slipping, and you're probably gonna need a new clutch..

it could be a number of things.. it could also be that the weather is getting hotter.. we've been spoiled here in the midwest with nice cool "turbo" weather... but recently it's gone up a lot!.. also humidity is really bad for turbos..

it could be that...

also make sure you're always filled up on the intercooler sprayer.. that stuff runs out fast when you're running the car hard all the time.. i fill mine up almost every week!! just get some 99c windshield washer fluid for it.... and then just spray the heck out of it when you want to go for some nice runs!.. a wet intercooler is very effective!!!!
