you will surely need to put a GOOD duel spring in there for a 280, something with a bunch of seat and open pressure. The Ferrea, and Supertech will work great. You should probably get a ported head as well, considering you could not take full advantage of the added lift and duration of a cam of that magnatude, with the stock ports.

power gains from different size cams, and combinations really depend on the rest of your combination. A example would be this thread, if the head is bone stock, the 272 would make more power, due to the fact that the 280 would be just to big for the application. Bigger is not always better.

It depends on the demand youre placing on the engine.

If its going to be stock or say, a 50 trim or even a GT35R on low boost, with a target of 450-500whp then Id say that head work, is limited to springs and retainers, with a good set of 272 cams

272's by Jun are the wildest cam, used by AMS I believe on their car in the 8's.

The Tomei 280's dont have a lot of press but are my favorite, as they have huge duration, huge lift and are very wild, albeit not wildly used.

HKS 280's are less wild than even the Jun's to my knowledge

Cam selection depends on your tuner and your selection of engine mgmt. AEM EMS I know for sure can tune out the lopey idle of a crazy cam setup,

however I think the stock ECU has been reworked extensively.

But really, figure on a MAX power gain you'd be satisfied with, then detail the parts in after that. If the power is as high as you can go,

buy the Cosworth head and the wildest set of cams you can afford.

First you should ask yourself why do you want to rev to 8000rpms. If your using the stock turbo you definetly dont. It loses power above 7500rpms. then, you dont have to do head work to use a cam with a duration of 280 degrees. the only reason you would have to do head work is if the cam has a huge lift to it. I use comp 280's and they work good. If you using a huge turbo and need to rev more than 8k then u will need valve springs and retainers. What I would do is contact a tuner to see what cams will be best for your application.

i am currently on stock turbo but i want to rev that high because im going with a gt35r on a 2.0 then might go with a build 2.2

so springs retainers, strong timing belt, and a good port and polish should do the job
