timing belt tensioner

Planning on doing a timing belt change. I will be replacing the tensioner with a new one.

Would I still need the tensioner tool to remove the old one? Or can I just unbolt the old tensioner to release tension on the belts?

I rather not spend money on the tool and! have a possibility of it breaking.

If tension is still tight the bolt my get stuck crooked as you back it out and mess up the threads. Go to a bolt supply store and buy a M8 1.25 thread bar made of the strongest stuff they carry, they even might have a bolt long enough. For $5 you can have the tool but turn slow or it may bend

If your going to remove it than you dont need the tool.
You use the tool only when your goin to remove the cams, etc without removing the timing belt.

Its pretty easy to do actually.

it makes life easy to use the tensioner tool to remove the belt like it has been said already ther will be a good amount of tension on the bolts witch can cause damage to the threads. if you are going to replace the tensioner pulley make sure not to over tighthen the belt with it.

you run a high risk of boogering up the threads if you try to take it off under tension.
