This is my stock clutch, which cooked after 4500 miles. Never been to the drag strip with it, only autocross.
The disk has lots of meat left on it, its just glazed to hell and gone...

No clue. I autocross with the local Mitsu service manager, so I am not too worried about warranty issues.
Likely if your dealer is an *** they could make a case that a performance clutch puts more stress on the drivetrain.

You haven't been to the dragstrip, but have you done quite a few 4k plus rpm launches with it ? Or is this from just normal use ?

Yep, I have done lots of hard launches, never dumping the clutch but quickly rolling off it. Every autocross run ='s a hard launch. So my wear isn't typical, but even a stock clutch should not have failed so quickly. Most won't have this problem within 5K miles, but from the looks of things a whole lot of Evo owners will be seeking new clutches by the 10K point.
I am not surprised by the clutch wear. Because of the grip of the tires and the awd, it puts a lot of stress on the driveline (aka driveline shunt). No matter how smoothly you think you leave the line, it is a shock when the reciprocating parts engage. By putting additional stress (ie hard launches) on the system, then you risk wearing things prematurely.
As far as the car being bulletproof, I would only be surprised if I threw a rod or something running stock boost. Wearing out a clutch because I thrash is a different story.
When I had my S2000, people used to complain about that car's clutch, too. I drove every day in stop-go L.A. traffic and had 60,000 miles on the stock clutch when I traded it in. Just a matter of being mechanically sympathetic.
