Failled exedy twin HD

My car has been equipped with the exedy twin hd for about 15k miles. I drove it down the block to the store. When she went to get back in the car it wouldn't go back into gear. The car was taken apart and found that the clutch looked completely destroyed. The flywheel, disks, and pressure plates were toast. I never had a single problem with the clutch untill this point.

Before you comment on my driving style, my stock was replaced after 23k miles of ~330 whp. I never had any problems, and only replaced it when adding the alky and turbo for insuance. I'm not a young kid, and have had lots of manual driving experience including other factory race cars.

Most of the time my car was completely babied, it took me 16 months to go through 5 gal of meth. Why the clutch went bad, I have no idea. They said it just looked abused, and was so worn it couldn't be rebuilt with the kit.

So time to get a new clutch. I can't drop another 1500 on a clutch that only lasted 15k miles. I decided to get the act extreme street with a recomended flywheel.

I also have had problems with my 5th gear grind, so I wanted that to be examined and covered by warranty, to reduce the labor costs of the clutch cahnge. They removed the tranny and found the synchros completely gone. My car was flagged for warranty, but they agreed to pay for the labor for the transmission only 3hours, and the replacement of syncros. I still have to pay for the 11 hours of labor for the clutch. I was also told if there was a problem with my gears at all, nothing would be covered.

So does this seem right, any sugestions.

Edited. This is a fictional account, and in no way is a representation of an actual event.

11 hours of labour for a clutch install? Am I reading it correctly? Some of the garages back in Singapore (and these were the really good ones, mind you, not some backalley garage) took no more than 2 man hours for a clutch install.

That said, it seems quite surprising that the Exedy would die this way, especially with this many people in EvoM waxing lyrical about how great the HD Twin Plate is. I pretty much drive the same way you do on street, and only drive the car hard (but not abusively) on track days.

I was seriously contemplating switching to the Ralliart Twin Plate clutch when mine started showing signs of wear (I prefer to fix things before they get a chance to really break down), but due to budget constraints, I went for a stock Evo 9 clutch kit to hold me over for the next 6 to 8 months (where it will see approximately 10 to 15 track days) while I continue to research clutches.

I have heard nothing but good things about the ATS carbon-carbon clutch, so you might want to see if that fits the bill for you.

That clutch shouldnt take that long to do. If you complained enough you might be able to get the to cover it all. If they are taking the trans out for a warranty repair, then you the customer shouldnt have to pay for something Mitsu it paying for (the removal of the trans) You should only have to pay 1 hour for the actual clutch install, because Mitsubishi has already paid them to remove and rebuild the transmission.

unfortunatley the labor for a evo clutch by book is 10 or 11 hours thats what the dealer goes by. They will make you pay the bigger part as warranty only pays for that they can cover. You should consider your self luck that they dont make you pay for the entier thing like they do with our customers when they see an aftermarket clutch installed

If it is a ligit warranty claim for the transmission then Mitsubishi America pays for the removal, rebuild, reinstallation of the transmission. Not just a part of it.

Since the clutch needed to be replaced, and my car was towed in undriveable, they will only cover the labor for the trans, other then the 11 hours for the clutch. Any labor time that is overlapped (ie, exhaust removal) would be charged to me as part of the clutch labor.
