I'm glad to hear your experience with the RMR 6-puck. I just ordered mine from Vivid since my stocker is going too. I hope it holds up long enough to do some more runs before I need a new flywheel / pressure plate combo.

Be careful with the HKS units...great for a roadrace car, but its definately the harshest engagement of all the clutches offered...

As for the disks, the stock disk is not the problem...the pressure plate is

you sound like some kind of idiot... you never had a manual and you're complining about the clutch going out...? An AWD tranny is alot different than your buddies Supra...

i doubt you know how to drive the car... you better think long and hard about that 6 puck... you'll be stuck at every red light in town...

That's worse than a WRX clutch and a Honda clutch. Mitsu never made good trannies... Look at the GSM guys...

the trannies are fine, the pressure plate sux and the clutch isn't the that great either.

1badevo, i'll have to stop by some time, maybe you could hook me up with a discounted tank of gas?

Those McCarthy guys can't be that bad if they're replacing your clutch for free.

Actually, DSM transmissions are very good and strong. It is just that the cars are so easy to hop up for incredible torque and horsepower numbers that the limits of the transmissions are found far to easily.

If you drag race your car often, the limit for a DSM transmission is around low 12s and high 11s. After that, you are looking at breaking parts. And even then, if you drive the car right, the transmissions can last.

Hell, John Shepherd rarely blows up a transmission (once a year or even longer). And he is running 9.2s at over 140mph.

Yesterday he ran 9.2@157 with 1.4 '60 and 4.0 330', so the DSM tranny's can be very strong with the right rebuild.

Must be the clutch! Had to throw that in here.

We have been doing some testing on the EVO clutch and it is actually pretty good in spite of what people say. We test the stock pressure plate at 2200lb and the disc uses the good stuff out of Japan. John ran this same friction material on his car for almost a year because we didn't have our improved linings ready yet when he needed them. The DSM is only 225mm while the EVO is 240mm. One real issue with these cars is the restictor in the hydraulics that only allows the clutch to engage at a certain rate. It is really easy to eliminate. It is located at the slave cylinder where the hydro line connects to it. It is basically a spring and washer (restrictor). Keep in mind that Mitsu put it in because they warrantee transmissions, not clutches. If you waste a trans. don't blame me.

For those interested we are still about four months away from getting clutches from Exedy to work with. Mike at Road Race Engineering is sending me some to work on in the mean time. The prototype tested 2950lb and we may try to get a little more. For reference, the Ralli Art pressure plate made by Exedy tests 2700lbs.

I agree!

Dirk, you probably don't remember me, but I shot you a few emails a few years ago when I got my first ACT 2600. I got very quick and good replies! You guys have some of the best customer support out there. I'm on my second one, now, and I love it!

The 2G DSMs had the same restrictor. I posted about it and how to remove it on the Evo here:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ght=restrictor

The Evo's clutch feels really light. But I think they probably just upped the helper spring on the clutch pedal from the 2G's. They did this between the 1G and 2G DSM generations.

And frankly, the Evo's clutch seemed pretty good to me. Though the engagement on the car I drove was extremely high.

Glad to see you guys are supporting the Evo! When I heard what most aftermarket Evo clutches go for, I just about flipped!
