About to adjust clutch pedal. Question

On my car, the clutch doesn't engage until I almost COMPLETELY let the pedal out. It has an aftermarket clutch that the previous owner put in. Which way do I need to turn to put the engagement/disengage more towards the middle? Isnt it counter-clockwise? Just want to make sure before I go out there & tackle it. I am experiencing high RPM lockout with the way it currently is. Anything over 6000rpm.. you can forget it. Still very notchy under 6000 too. Brand new OEM tranny fluid as well...

Counter clockwise will bring the engagement down. Use needle nose pliers to make the turns....very easy.

Dont do it too much because you want the clutch to fully engauge. It only takes 1-2 full turns to make a big difference.

Ok guys... i just went & adjusted it. I adjusted it to bring the pedal UP. Before I adjusted it, I counted about 4 to 5 threads. I adjusted it where I can only see about 3-4 threads. I went for a test drive. My impressions:

Immedatley as I put the car in reverse, I could tell the clutch pedal was higher. It was certainly different. Regular shifting stayed the same, and was very notchy like usual. This has been the notchiest stick i have ever driven out of 4 manual cars. So I get to a straight stretch and take off... bam switch gears & could immediatley tell a difference. It was not locking me out! But...was still a little notchy.

So I brought it back home. I made a new adjustment where I could only see 2-3 threads. I begin driving and HOLY CRAP. The daily driving shifting is shifting like BUTTER. There is NO more notchiness while daily driving! I could not believe how much of a drastic difference that made. It has been so freaking notchy going from 1st to neutral, then to 2nd... and 2nd to neutral to 3rd and now all of that is gone!

Now to the high rpm shifting. I took off in 1st and almost immediatley caught second... went to third next and got it in, in NO time. I was amazed.

The high rpm shifting didnt seem to noticeably improve that much over the first adjustment I did. I think I was just more excited that i could shift fast finally EVER in my evo. I've had it 2 months now and have had this problem since day one thinking it was normal.

Ooops, I think I did the wrong thing. I was thinking something differently I guess. My engaugement is at the very top of the pedal. If I press down 1/2 an inch, the clutch is dis-engauged. I brought the pedal UP. Bringing the pedal up was the opposite that I meant to go...and I found this out while driving around for a few. So engaugement as far as where it engauges/disengauges in the pedal technically stays the same.. this clutch adjustment is pretty much just moving the pedal up & down?

Reguardless... I should move the clutch clockwise & bring the engaugement down. Thing is, when it was more down than it is now.. I had high rpm lockout and very notchy shifting... now with the clutch up very high, I get butter shifting and no lockout. So my question is, if I move the clutch pedal down, will the shifting be worse?

Below is a graph. This is the given clutch pedal.

Fully Disengauged |-----X2-------X1-----1st--------2nd------3rd----| Fully Engauged

1st=What the car was at STOCK
2nd=My first adjustment. High rpm lockout mainly gone.
3rd=My second adjustment. High rpm lockout mainly gone & regular shifting was GREATLY improved.
X1=Adjusting the pedal to this position will cause high rpm lockout? Fix it?
X2=More problem-matic?

Yes, it will. You know that already, since that was where you started. Adjusting it UP is where you want to be.

I read that evo150, i've read them all .

It may just be my imagination, but today after driving around a bit, it seems more notchier to go into 1st than the other gears. May have just been because my car wasnt fully warmed up though.

Ryan,
How many threads are you currently showing now? I've got some kind of aftermarket clutch also and grind into second nearly all the time... blah. Tried the adjustment today and no change.

For proper pedal adjustment you need all for wheels to be off the ground. Take it from some of the best in the Trans biz.
