Turbo making weird noise

Yesterday, my car started making a very weird noise when the turbo is spooling up. It is almost like a schreeching noise, that gets louder and stronger as the turbo spools more. Its kind of like a zzzzZZZZZ noise is the best way I can think to type it. I was just curios if anyone has had this happen or has any idea what it could be. This is my first turboed car so I am not completely familiar with them yet.

Note: I know there is probably threads on here about this, but I do not have time right now to look and really need to know what this may be. Also, I need to know whether to fix my beater before work tomorrow or if it is safe to drive.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Anthony

Yes, it is still boosting the same. I thought it might be a boost leak at first, but it is still spiking and pulling the same. I have turboback, intake, boost controller, racing clutch, buschur intercooler and LICP, forge RS bov, perrin o2 simulator, and that is all I can think of right now.
Where in cincinnati are you loacted? Just out of curiousity.

hamilton.........if you are still boosting the same amount i would bet that its a leak somewhere. you can still hit peak boost with a leak, its just the turbo is working alot harder. i would do a boost leak test aswell as inspect the lower intercooler pipe and double check that the gasket between the lower intercooler pipe and turbo hasnt blown.

I will check out that gasket tomorrow. Since it has only been on there about a week. If not I will try to pressure test it and keep this updated if I dont find the problem. Can I get that gasket at any parts stores around here? I live in west chester, right by liberty township.

Also, it is still cool to drive it if I do find out it is that gasket or a boost leak?

i personally wouldnt in the event its something more seriouse. as for the gasket you could try a mitsu dealer, i doubt a local auto store will have it. since you just installed the lower intercooler pipe hopefully its just a leak. did you reuse the old gasket when installing the licp? may just need to realigne the licp and tighten down the clamps.

well check the licp gasket and do a boost leak check but to be honest all turbos make a zzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZ sound that gets louder i would like to hear it personally to give a better diagnosis

if youve done a boost leak test as well as check the licp and gasket go ahead and take the maf pipe off and check for any movement of the compressor blade, chipped/broken blades, as well as oil in the turbo housing.

does it sound sorta like a belt-driven supercharger? I had the same thing on my car one time and it ended up being a boost leak that took forever to find.

yeah i had that same prob bro. i went through my car an cheacked all the clamps and tighted them down. i when to the point to even buy t-clamps for my car. because it was driven me crazy. yeah my car sounded like it had a super-charger on it. some people thought i had a bigger turbo. lol. i am like naw i have a boost leak some where. after i done all that the trubo got quiter and their wasn't a leak. the leak sound like my bov was going off in high boost only. i am going to cheack that gasket that you all are talking about on the turbo for the licp. that is one place i did forget to cheack. thanks for the reminder. a nother thing once i put on all my t-clamps and tighted them down. my boost was lower than before. my car got tuned for 23-24 psi on 93 oct. it only went to 20-21 maybe even 22 psi. and the car seemed slower. so i put it back to 23-24psi and the car seems faster than it ever did before. weird with the boost leak i had it went to 23-24 psi with no probs. fix the prob and put it 23-24 psi again and the car is faster. i have no clue what i did but i am happy about it. more tq is cool. 1st 2nd 3rd tq is awsome.

Check the compressor outlet where it connects to the LICP. Two cap screws, thats where my similar simptoms were resolved.

Your typed description of the sound is hilarious.
