I have a 38mm gate on my AMS 35R.

When I first put the turbo in, the gate had a single 10 psi spring. When I drove the car with boost controller off, naturally I got about 10 psi of boost.

The problem was, when running anything over about 14 psi, the car would boost to 14 psi very quickly, then all of the sudden slow down and just creep up the rest of the way. I could run as much as 34 psi but it would get there very very lazily from 14 up.

I attributed this to the wastegate spring after asking for help here. Recently I fitted a 13 psi and 9 psi spring. And let me tell you, the car boosts way, way better. Only downside is I cant dial in boost less than 22 psi.

As a rule of thumb Ive heard people say decide on your max boost, and then get half that for spring pressure. However my experience of the wastegate bleeding as early as 14 psi with a 10 psi spring made me think to get pretty much the highest min boost I could tolerate (which for me was about 21 psi).

Hope this helps.
