engine code

Not sure if you guys remember my thread about a possible burnt clutch that I had, with the jumping rpm.

The car backfired on me a couple days ago and this time the check engine light didnt go away. Today when I ran a scan on it, it came up with the code p0234 which says: The PCM has determined that an overboost situation has occured. When I looked for that code on here it says "DTC P0234: Turbocharger Wastegate System Malfunction"

So I guess I'm kind of happy that its not the clutch.

I was wondering if you guys have any opinions as to what might be happening and if this is harmful to the car in anyway.

Another thing that I'm thinking about doing is clearing the code and taking it easy on the car until I get an o2 housing than weld an external dumptube, and that's when I'll see what exactly is going on with the wastegate.

So I was just wondering whats your overview of the whole situation, before I further damage something.
