Another Engine noise diagnosis thread.

Ok, so I have done alot of searching and I have come up empty so thats why im posting this. First let me say that I have had 8 DSM's and 2 Evo's, I well aware of lifter tick, so I know this is not a lifter.

Symptoms:

Start car (lets say first thing in the morning after a long night sitting) Engine sounds great until it starts to warm up a little then a faint knocking noise comes alive and by the time the car is almost completely warmed up the knock is there and consistant. It goes up with the rpms. Now... when checking to see where the noise is coming from with a stethoscope the noise is very audible on the egr valve and on the top of the valve cover closest to number 4. The knock eventually drowns out after driving the car however its still there but 100x less. You can no longer hear it at idle after the car has been driven and really the only time you hear it is after a rev when the rpms are coming down you hear knock knock knock then idle. I am unsure as to whether or not a gunked up EGR valve will cause a knock that will rise with rpms and eventually go away after the car has been driven. I am also thinking injector because its in the general area. I just want to see what everyone else thinks. If anyone has had the same issue please chime in. Ive heard most engine noises. It dosnt sound like a rod, however it dosnt sound like a lifter. Pistons normally rattle however, ive never had a piston wristpin problem and im unsure if it would make a knocking noise that sounds sort of like a deeper lifter tick. Anyways thanks for any inputs.
