Cosworth 272 IX Owners In Here Please

Before I even post yes I did search.

One of my main concerns is how is the idle with the Cosworth's. I have read that it is very bad and then I have read that a good tuner can make the car idle just fine.

I have also read that these cams are more of a top end cam, while the HKS is mid range and top end. But when talking with a few vendors 2 of the 3 said go with the Cosworth.

if the car is tuned correctly the cams will idle almost as good as stock... i really dont know why people say that the idle is crap...

I will try and make a small video of the car idling and post it. However my idle is not as smooth as before as i think my o2 sensor started "complaining" that i feed my engine to much racegas...!

The killer topend /crappy low end comment is incorrect also!

I have full boost by 3200rpm and the car pulls really hard all the way to the rev limiter... Again i think its all matter of tune...

i have the cossie cams over 5000 miles now... city driving, drag strip, stuck in traffic for hours, highway driving... the car feels perfect...

+1....its all in the tune. 272's arent huge, so with a tuner who knows what hes doing, idle can be as stock as you want it.

and dont forget... MIVEC helps a lot...

these cams on a VIII would be difficult to tune and make idle correctly... 272 is not huge but the 11mm lift and the 255 degree duration @ 1 mm lift...

Sean Ivey is my tuner and I personally think he is AMAZING!

I wish people had more resutls of the HKS IX Cams so I could get a good comparison.

Thankyou for all the responses. It helped clear alot of uncertain areas for me.

How do you guys feel about purchasing used cams? I found a great deal, but if it's better to go new I will just go new.

from your sig i would assume by installing the Cossie cams and retune you could go to the 360+ whp range with killer torgue!

JUST DO IT!!!

Is it recommended to upgrade springs/retainers with these cams?

yes it is recommended but not needed if you dont over-rev the engine... with 7800rpm rev limiter TOPS you will be fine... and usually you should gearchange around 7200rpm...

you dont necessarily have to do that either.... the power is in the mivec

Cossie's are hard to make idle properly, but if you know what you are doing, you can do anything.

Without anything but a little timing adjustment, adding 50RPM's to my idle speed, they idle like stock (with a small burble)
