Hmm not sure here but I got the complete 9 turbo set up with exhaust manifold and it was a direct bolt on. Had to use the pressure side pipe off the 9 turbo but that was the only thing I had to change. Lucky IDK but I haven't had an issue with it as of yet and there were no clearance problems. FWIW I reused all the gaskets also no issues or leaks.
I've heard of people manipulating the oil/coolant lines of there evo 8 turbo but the j-tube must be changed. It wll hit the starter and cause a fire under your hood.
Good luck.

Below is the list of hardware I purchased from Mentor Mitsu when I installed my JDM 9 RS turbo. I bought a used exhaust manifold and O2 housing and had them JET-HOT® coated before installing the turbo. Also, note that I replaced all studs (PITA) w/bolts and I bought new nuts/washers since the ones on the car were rusty.

Yup all that needs to be replaced is the J Pipe the VIII's lines can be made to work without issue.
Buschur and FP both sell a nice kit though. I bought the buschur kit when I did my 20g set up back in the day
