It shouldn't be a problem, but why not just buy some aftermarket pistons?

I run them in my evo1 that is using a 2g block. The 2g rings wont work. The cutouts for valves will be reversed on the pistons. I didnt worry about it and run them that way.

Berkey,

Don't mess around with the internals. If you are that deep into it then I would recommend to get a set of aftermarket pistons. $300 or $400 difference now will be a few grand later if you do the shortcut.

Don't rush it, put the right stuff whenever you have the money and you will never look back.

I am telling you this because I broke a few 4G63 engines in the mid 90's and I had to replace new pistons, rods and stuff like that.

+1. When building a bottom end, try to build it once!

It depends on your HP goals. As long as you are stock or near stock, and keep within the stock redline, the Evo pistons will do you just fine and save you money, if that is what you need. I'd be more worried about the 2G rods if you were building a higher HP motor, as they were quite weak from the get go.

As 94AWDCoupe told you, the 2g ring pack won't work. The ring lands in the Evo pistons are different width and spacing. You'll have to buy Evo rings to fit them. They should be the same pin size as the 2G rods, though, so you'll not have to machine the rods like you would a set of 1G rods.

it is not that i am cheap look at my location i live in Dominica W.I.

pistons $400. us
shipping to Miami FL..$50.00
shipping to Dominica from Miami FL $75.00
customs Duty 45% of pistons and shipping.. 400 +50+75= $525.00us +45%= $761.25us

$1.00 U.S =$2.7169 E.C

$761.25 us = $2068.24 E.C

monthly pay = 1800.00 E.C

E.C = eastern caribbean

What do you do about the pin offset being on the wrong side when using EVO pistons in a 2g 4g63?

i agree with most. if youre gonna build it do it right the first time cuz if something ever happened it would cost you alot more $$$ to replace an engine than it would to have just bought aftermarket pistons made for it the first time.
