Water temp ques.

I hooked up my water temp gauge last night. The sensor is in the upper radiator hose.
After the car idled for about 5-10 min until normal operating temp on the cluster, the gauge was only at 125^. Is that normal? Seems a little low to me. I didn't have a change to drive it around.
I have autometer gauges if it matters...
Thanks!

Just for future searches, I was thinking about it and wondered if it was because the sensor was in the hose and not grounded. I went home and grounded the sensor with a piece of wire and it now reads correctly.
