Dont' understand why you purchased the 18psi WGA if you don't want to run that much boost? Put the stock one back on. Sell the WGA. Doesn't FP sell there WGA for like $75? I'll trade you one off my 9 turbo.

The reason is I feel/thought that it would hold boost better...

I don't want to run less that 18psi,

It shouldn't run less than 18psi at redline.

What would you idealy like to run (psi)?

Depending on your AFR's and the timing of your tune, you should be O.K. at a peak boost of 22.5# on 93 octane in your IX. For a 22-23 PSI setup you can set the preload up between 18-19 PSI. This will maximize spoolup.

I think that most guys are running anywhere from 2 1/2-3 1/2 turns on the Green. However each car is different, so you should approach it incrementally. My VIII has about 4 1/2 or 5 turns to it and I'm running it at 21.5# on 91.

you'll be more than able to hold that to redline provided you've minimized backpressure as i mentioned before.

here is a pump gas (95) log peaking 2 bar and tapering to 1.7 at 7500 rpm. you'll be able to flat line that thing at 23psi to 7500rpm.

Manifold Presure is in Kpa
1 bar = 14.7 psi
100Kpa = 0 bar = 0 psi
270Kpa = 1.7bar = 25psi

Do you still have your original, stock IX WGA on hand? Since it's relatively easy to swap one WGA out for the other, you could do a back to back comparison. That way, if you find that the stock actuator does the job, or if you happen to experience the FP WGA's notorious "hump", then you could sell your FP unit.

Guys...this isn't rocket science...really...

If you run higher boost you'll need a higher pressure WGA. If you use stock or near stock boost than stick with the one that comes with the car. If you just want a flapper that shuts with more force than before, than the FP is the way to go...granted you'll have some byproducts if you run less then 25psi (more than likely).

Dude...just sell the damn FP WGA and be done with it.

Will the FP HP 18spi actuator work on a stock Evo IX turbo.

If it fits on the EvoGreen then it'll fit on the IX, as they are identical externally.

I'm going to try the oem actuator, because I have my preload set to 6 half turn from zero preload and I hit 21psi, but let off to see exactly what it would boost to, and this was in 3rd gear...

I had it at zero preload and it would hit 18, but the zero preload made it so slow to spool because there was no pressure on the wg spring.

I am going to try the factory actuator, but i'm scared that it won't hold boost like the FP HP one does.....

Either that or I will set the preload to half of what I got it to 3 half turns.
