Weird shifting from 1st->2nd->3rd...

Hi all...

I have about 1000 miles on my new Evo MR and I've noticed that the shifting from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd isn't always all that smooth. Whenever I shift, there's a little bit of kickback from the transmission. Is this normal? It doesn't happen all the time.. and it doesn't happen in 4th/5th/6th.

Here's a little trick I learned...

apply the throttle VERY lightly and hold it there for just a bit,
then raise your foot off the clutch almost to the top,
keep it there for just a split second and let go immediately.

try doing this slowly at first, once you get used to it, you should be able to do it very quickly. no more bucking.

let me know if it works

its just bucking from evo's huge torque peak at mid 3k rpm.... smooth left and right foot helps it alot but still slows shifting speed down so i dont like it (unless i have my gf in the car).... driving solo i want fast satisfying shifts, alil bucks dont bother me. besides upgrading tranny and motor mount also helps in this.

ah.. i was mainly worried about doing damage to the transmission.. it feels like grinding minus the actual grinding noise & resistance...

I lmpw exactly what hes talking about i live in NH and its kinda cold now. So i let the car warm up for 5+ minutes every morning but still the 1st and 2nd shifts from 1st to second are not smooth feels like its getting caught up and rough just grinding without grinding the gears its weird but i dont liek it!

yea i get that sometimes, i like to describe it as being "notchy" instead of smooth. pretty common for evos from what ive heard.

Yea i feel you guys . I have 1400 miles on my SE and ever since i got it i have had a notchy 1st to 2nd gear shift and bucking going from 1st to 2nd and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd whenever i bring the RPMs to around 3 or more. I really dont like it. I never experienced this in any other car.

Make sue your tranny is warm before driving it and you should cut down on alot of this feeling. DEFINATELY dont get on it until it warms up.
