Possiably getting MIVEC cams for Evo 9

Is it worth? Is the gain worth the money? Looking to get a set of 272's for the performance gain and the lumpy sound as well. But I havent really been able to find any evidence showing they give any substantial gain. What do you think?

thanks

There is still some lope, Like when you let the revs drop it will lope a little before smoothing out. If you do not have your idle raised a bit, then they will lope and give you that sound. Since mine is a DD, I dont really want for the car to shake at stop lights all the time.

You can't use the stock springs/retainers with the Cossie cams. They recommend an upgraded valvetrain. I have Cossie cams with Supertech dual valve springs and titanium retainers. You could also order the Buschur set of springs/retainers.

If you plan on keeping stock rev limit (7500rpm or below), then you can use the stock springs and retainers. But if you like to rev high and bounce off the limiter all day long....then get the springs and retainers for safety.

I wouldn't even consider mivec cams until upgrading the turbo.

Max out your stock turbo with alchy/meth/race-fuel prior to wasting money on cams. Then go with a turbo upgrade before even thinking about mivec cams.

Read the following thead. This has real life dyno info in it. Not some horseshart far fetched scam from a retailer:

If you want to rice out your car for LOPE then adjust the mivec at idle and call it a day.

Not everyone wants to deal with the constant issue of maintaining supply of meth/alchy/race fuel. Turbo upgrades require more money and supporting mods to provide worthwhile gains (Meaning if not done properly the car will run like crap). Cosworths cams do provide power gains. Ive seen anywhere from 20-50whp after tune, and though I have not dyno'd my car, it is certainly putting down noticeably more hp than before the cams.

Sure, performance per dollar, Meth/Alchy Injection is the best, but it also comes with"baggage" id say lol. Its kind of like having a girlfriend who only looks really good with alot of make-up on vs having a pretty girl who looks good all the time. Id much rather have a pretty girl day in day out than to have a high maintenance pita who only satisfies when everything is in order.

So I would recommend cams on a stock turbo with the proper bolt ons for someone who wants solid gains with minimal loss of practicality and daily driveability. It is certainly NOT a waste of money with the 272s, because you can still upgrade your turbo later and have even better results!
