HELP! Rattle and Whine noise
I already have a stage 2 rebuilt tcase with mitsu lsd.....my triple plate is nearing the end of its life along with the trans getting notchy and im noticing a loud grinding noise every time I let off of the gas and coast underload......the tcase has always whined so that is not a factor with mine....im going to change tcase and trans fluid and see what comes out

whatd your fluid end up looking like?
hey check it out guys i also have had the same problem with my 03 evo and i just changed the clutch thinking it would help but nothing changed, still does the noise and i did change all the fluids. problem still there
hmm i have the same noise and i have a tc built by shepard. I really hope its not going . I started noticing it after i did some donuts in a parking lot . Im such an idiot. I guess im going to drive it till it breaks lol
i just put a stock excedy clutch in my 8 about 3 weeks ago and i have the same issue , my car starts a whining noise at around 25mph then when im on the freeway and i tap the gas i start to hear a clicking noise
Im having a similar problem, I get a lot of "chatter" from somewhere right at 2500RPM. It only happens when I get on it a little and do some higher RPM shifts. Its not a dull sound either its really loud and noticeable. I guess I better just take it to Mitsu and have it looked at. hopefully they wont void my warranty!!
Like one of the posters said make sure the right fluid for the tcase was used and not over filled. Overfilling could cause problems. Another problem could be not filling all the way. My bro's 03 evo had a loud whinning noise when his tcase broke. I'm suspecting that noise is the tcase
I think alot of people (myself included) are WAY paranoid about whining sounds.
I've given up being paranoid, because my whining hasn't gotten any worse and it's not very loud. My suggestion to anybody who thinks they have a whining sound is to first make sure it's not getting any worse. If it starts to progeressivly get worse and worse, maybe you can start to worry. If it's really faint and only you notice it, and need to have the stereo off and windows up to hear it, no need to worry.
I've read about even re-built T-cases whining, and the fact of the matter is, some of them just whine more than others. If you have a whining that sounds literally like a fire siren, you DO have a problem. If it gets louder as you accelerate, and I mean a LOT louder, you probably have a problem. But faint whining that goes away at a certain speed or is only between XXmph and XXmph, chances are, you're good.
But my main suggest is, just wait to see if it gets worse. If it keeps getting worse, faster and faster, start saving.
My Evo and my dad's Evo have the same VERY faint, on-trhottle whine at around 75mph. It goes away with added throttle and higher speeds. The whine hasn't gotten any worse and is fairly quiet. I don't even think he's noticed on his, but when I've driven it, I noticed it and if I was worried, I'd have said something to him about it. Plus, his is 100% stock with a warrenty... I'm jealous
