Question Boost Leak Test past the Throtle Body

Hi!

I will be doing a boost leak past the throtle body (UICP connected to the TB).

What is the easiest way to ensure that all the valves are closed?. I need that so the air does not go inside the pistons and get out thru the exhaust manifold.

Any other way to test past the TB? What will be the easiest way to do it?

Also, I hear some people saying in other threads to smoke in order to catch leaks. How exactly this is done?

If any valves are open that you would need to worry about, it would be intake valves. If they are open, then the exhaust valves are closed. If the exhaust valves are closed, then you should have a good seal.

With that, just put the leak tester on the turbo inlet and test away!

I think there is a position of the intake cam that will seal the plenum with all four intake valves. Not sure - have to exp a little

Just be aware that some of the air charged on the plenum will leak through the EGR valve, to the "tee" on the line, then out to the fwd top nipple which is on the throttle body and is open to the charge side. So you will have to pull the line off the fwd TB nipple and plug the vac line side because air will make it's way there.

All the other stuff on the plenum, i.e, purge, master cyl, FP regulator, EGR valve, PVC are either check or solenoid closed, just the EGR valve itself will leak to charge from plenum

huuum! I found this article https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=209776

It makes sense to me to test the system from the turbo to the end of the UICP. Then test from the TB as described on the link above.

Reasoning: I never got a leak in the coupler that connects the TB and the UICP.
