Do I NEED to tune first?

I have an 06 EVO IX that I've had for about 3 months. I ordered & installed the Injen intake & intercooler pipe kit soon after buying the car. It said in the item description that this particular kit did not require tuning when installed. Other than the sound diffrence I don't see any performance change (bad or good) & was not expecting anything noticable without tuning. I just ordered a full exhaust system (Megan manifold, O2 housing, & AMS TBE). I'd rather not get the car tuned until I get a boost controler & wideband so I only have to do it once untill I do more upgrades later on. What I need to know is will installing the exhaust without having the car tuned cause it to run bad or hurt something? Also is it hurting anything to continue running on the stock tune with my intake? I'd like to go ahead & install the exhaust, but would be willing to wait if it's a bad idea. I don't care if it wont give me any power without tuning. I just don't want it to hurt anything or run worse. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give you all the info that may be needed for support.

Thanks, Andy

Youll be fine with all of those mods. You may hit boost cut from overboosting if the weather is cold. The tune is the best bang for buck mod so do that as soon as you can afford to do so and obviously after the mods are installed.

People are doing what you are asking about all the time, the stock evo tune is very conservative.

you should be fine but might be running a little lean....just get a tune any tuner out there that will tune your car should be willing to give you a free or discount price on a reflash later on down the road if you decide to upgrade to aftermarket parts....my tuner did but some are different......

It is less to retune, but I'd rather not have to do it twice in the same month if possible.

yes you do. Everytime you put in a peformance part you have to get it flash or your car will run like crap. I had a ams tbe and drop in fliter it ran like crap until i flashed. Just don't have a heavy foot while your driving.

Just pick up an MBC when you slap on that tbe. It'll help you from hitting that overboost cut.

I guess I'll just wait till I can afford to do the boost controller & tune. It's gonna suck seeing those parts here & not being able to install them. Oh well better safe than sorry. Thanks for the info/recomendations.

You can totally do those installs, the exhaust system won't mess you up at all... Course, not having a tune means just like you said you might not see much performance gains... As far as the intake, I heard that the injen works decent without a tune but I don't think I'd run an intake without a tune EVER on an Evo, so you're already past that point, I doubt the TBE will hurt any more, but the O2 housing and the manifold I couldn't say.

Get a Tune right away. You won't be disappointed.

I'm sure it will be ok without the tune, but you will be really happy after the tune!!

Retune rates should be fair from your tuner.

I had to go ahead & buy the exhaust while it was on sale. That & Christmas have made me extremely broke, so I'll have to wait a couple weeks for the tune. I hope I'm not hurtiung anything as is.
