Broken Engine Help!

So I have a ticking sound coming from my engine. I know it can be a series of things so im going to start taking it apart the and looking at the least expensive / simplest fixes first! So my question is, How can I tell if a valve spring let go? And also how do I tell if its a collapsed liffter? Or Rod Knock?

Thank You for your help!

A ticking is your lifters. change your oil to a thicker weight. if it queits down thats your prob.

a bad bearing is a knocking noise.

If it is valve or valve spring your car would run like sh*t and sound like a Subaru. Are you sure that one of your pullies is bent or not. My friend had a bent pulley and it sounded like crap. Check that.

Ok, well all of my gauges read perfect (AFR, Boost, EGT, Oil pressure and Temperature, and Fuel Pressure are all reading where they always are. It still builds boost the same, and the car doesnt feel like it has lost any power (butt dyno)! But at idle I hear a ticking sound, like a playing card hitting the spokes on a bicycle or a leaf stuck under your windshield wiper. It sounds like its coming from under the clave cover! And as you rev it up, the higher the rpms, the louder and faster the sound becomes. Im really hoping its nothing that I need to rebuild the engine! What happened was my car was running perfectly fine, I shut it off, come back out and I heard this sound, drove to town and back (bout 20 miles round trip) and the sound got a little worse by the time we got back but still not horrible! Had it towed home and now its sitting in my driveway waiting to be torn apart but Im trying to get ideas of what to start with so I dont pull the engine to find something stupid! I do have BC 272 Cams but theyve been in for about 10,000 miles and never made a sound is why I dont think its a lifter ticking due to not enough oil because that usually goes away once warm and this doesnt! Im running RedLine 10W-30 and its been in for about 2500 miles with NO RACING!

I sounds like a stuck lash adjuster to me. To be sure have someone who knows the sound listen to your engine. An old DSM hand would be who to look for. DSM owners, sooner or later, experienced this problem.

My timing belt tensioner had let go and the belt was slapping against the valve cover.

THIS WAS ON MY OLD MOTOR! NOT MY BUSCHUR BUILD!
(sorry just had to clarify that!)
